Daly sells smart BMS for a wide range of packs, from 4S to 24S and from a few amps to several hundred. Most of them can be read with the Daly app over Bluetooth, and many offer a UART or RS485 communication port, sometimes through an add-on module. Each option has its place.
The Bluetooth app: good for setup, limited for daily life
- Range: you need to be within a few metres of the battery, often in a garage or a cellar.
- One connection at a time: while your phone is connected, nothing else can read the BMS over Bluetooth.
- No history: the app shows the present moment. Yesterday's lowest cell or last week's temperature peak are gone.
- No alerts: if a protection trips at night, you find out when the lights go off.
The app remains the right tool to configure the BMS: protection thresholds, balancing, capacity. Monitoring is a different job.
The ways to read a Daly BMS remotely
| Approach | Effort | Limits |
|---|---|---|
| Bluetooth proxy with an ESP32 and ESPHome | Soldering or flashing, YAML configuration | Bluetooth range and stability; maintenance of the setup |
| USB-to-RS485 adapter and a computer running 24/7 | Software installation and scripting | A PC or Raspberry Pi always on next to the battery |
| A dedicated Wi-Fi monitor on the RS485 port | Plug in, join Wi-Fi | Needs an RS485 port or module on the BMS |
What is worth watching on a Daly pack
- Cell spread at the end of charge: the best indicator of balance. Daly boards with balancing work near the top of the charge, so check the spread there.
- The lowest cell at the end of discharge: it decides how much of the pack you can really use.
- MOSFET states: if charge or discharge is switched off, the BMS has a reason; the protection flags tell you which.
- Temperatures: each probe connected to the BMS, especially near the cells carrying the most current.
Every cell in Home Assistant, without an ESP32
Daly Monitor connects to the RS485 port of the BMS with the supplied cable. It shows the pack on its screen, puts every cell, the MOSFET states, the temperatures and the protection flags on your Wi-Fi, and creates the sensors in Home Assistant by itself through MQTT auto-discovery. No soldering, no YAML, no Bluetooth link to babysit. The free Cloud adds access from anywhere, three years of history and e-mail alerts.
Daly makes many variants. Tell us your exact BMS model and cell count when you order: we test the box with that version before it ships, and the Bluetooth app keeps working alongside it for settings.
